Summer Picnic 2015

UK Konkans Host Picnic 2015 in Bushy Park on 28 June 2015

While it is said ‘time heals and teaches’, it is also said ‘wiser and bolder learn from their past experiences. Both became a reality for UK Konkans on 28 June 2015 when they hosted their Annual Picnic in Bushy Park. Unlike in the previous years where adverse weather forecast had forced them to cancel or postpone their events, this was different. With convincing decisions and strong gut feeling we went ahead with the picnic, and lo, behold, what a beautiful day it was, albeit a few showers at the start.

The day began with breakfast for all attendees, and while the it was still raining, children and adults made best use of the time to indulge in some gully cricket.

Following the rain delay, the event began with earnest with dodging-the-ball game. The two groups tried their best to outdo each other, but there was only one winner.

Childrens’ game with hoola hoop and bean bag race were well received and they showed a strong competitive spirit.

Next followed the relay comprising of children and adult sack races, spoon and marble, three legged and finally the sprint. Both teams put in serious competition to win the relay.

Delicious snacks and lunch was provided by the organisors and there were generous contributions from the attendees. Guests were treated to idli and sambaar, biriyani, dukra maas and various beverages and cake as dessert.

Lunch was followed by a burst of short baila naach to popular bollywood and konkani music. Guests enjoyed the ambiance and made the best of both, the music and the opportunity.

Tug of war was fiercely fought by ladies teams and also the gentlemen. It was a delight to watch the teams try to put themselves ahead of the other team.

A new game was introduced where we had to make up two SUMO Wrestlers and then they had to take part in a wrestling match by a fast run. Then they were to be brought back to their old self to be the winner. This was one of the funniest and most enjoyed game of the day.

There were other games like breaking the pot and horse race. The event concluded after playing housie.

UK Konkans thanks all organisors and attendees for their wonderful support and assistance extended in hosting and conducting this event, which, we believe, will stay in our memories for a very long time.

We take this opportunity to inform you that our Christmas Celebration will be held on 20 December at Addlestone Community Hall – Please mark this date in your diaries. We will provide additional information in due course.
