Grand Christmas Celebrations by UK Konkans

UK Konkans celebrated their 12th annual Christmas party with great entertainment at Addlestone Community Centre on 11 Dec 2016. Demand for the tickets was high and all tickets were sold much before the closing date.

The kids inaugurated the celebration with Christmas carols in English and adults sang in Konkani. This year UK Konkans introduced a photo studio run by Sylvester D’Souza for taking Christmas themed photos which was very popular.

UK Konkans president Mr Tom D’Souza welcomed the guests whilst MC Kevin Madtha and Shanti Menezes kept the guests entertained with their comments and games.

In his speech President Tom D’Souza highlighted UK Konkans achievement and thanked committee members for their selfless service to host various events and giving the opportunity for Konkani community to come together.

Tom D’Souza also highlighted the charity Kuswar Sale one of the trademark event of UK Konkans Christmas celebration to support charity from Dakshin Karnataka area.

UK Konkans committee members prepared homemade delicious kuswar (Nevryo, Kidyo, Gulio, Ladoo, Kokkisan, Chakli, Cake, Karakaddi etc) which then sold at the event to support “Asha Nilaya” a residential school and vocational rehabilitation center for the special children located at Udupi, Karnataka – more information can be found at here.

This year UK Konkans showcased unique Christmas play. Along with the traditional nativity of showing birth of Jesus, UK Konkans also shown how modern families prepare and celebrate birth of a child.

Stage entertainment was kicked off with an X factor quality performance by our lovely teenage girls group of Elvita, Diyona, Cimona and Elvira who hip hopped to Ladki beautiful kar gayi chul and Lets nacho.

Tia D’Souza performed gracefully to the tune of Deewani Deewani and Jalte Diya. Lots of kids came up on stage and danced to various English songs whilst jumping on bubble wrapping paper.

MC Kevin and Shanthi kept the crowd going with their Mr. and Mrs. game which turned out to be very popular. Two couples Mr. and Mrs. Lobo and Dr Ronald Misquith and Mrs Misquith very sportingly participated in this game.

Charlotte, Alice , Mini, Gration , Harry and Kevin entertained all with their dance moves for the popular Konkani Kenna Kenna song. DJs Harry, Edgar and Eric got the people dancing with some groovy music.

After lots of dancing it was time for lunch. Violet D’Souza said grace before meal and delicious buffet with Pork Sorpotel, chicken curry, veg Korma, etc. was thoroughly enjoyed by the guests. The guests were entertained during lunch time with songs by Raphael and Margaret, Sylvester, Eric , Gratian, Haydon etc.

After lunch, Tom D’Souza, Stella Vaz and Eric Dsouza entertained crowd with their Konkani Skit “Gov, Bayl ani Keppo Vokil”.

Santa arrived with the tune of Jingle bells and entertained all kids with sweets.
The Royals group of London comprising of Garcia, Kristian, Keagan , Joshua, Leon, Jyoti, Claret, Savio, Iggy, Kevin, Arun and Anuj danced gracefully and energetically to Bajirao mastani songs mash-up.

This year Richard Menezes completed a hat trick of winning the UK Konkans christmas hamper. There were other follow on prizes distributed including prizes for spot games. eg lady with the tallest husband etc.

Sheela D’Silva thanked everyone for their presence and contributions. UK Konkan would like to specially thank our sponsors Mr and Mrs Lobo, Mr Vincent Menezes and Dr Micheal Menezes . We are also thankful to all those who have sponsored in kind through gifts and other items including wine, champagne, costumes and raffle gifts.

Final dance performance of the day was by Beena, Ruma, Sheela, Pinki , Fancy and Juliet. The well-choreographed dance to the tune of Dola re dola entertained all the guests.

It was a lovely Christmas celebration, packed with entertainment with the guests enjoying to their utmost. Special thanks also go to all our guests who helped in the cleaning and clear up of the hall.
